Our third workshop this year came in the form of two specialist instrument clinics, delivered by experts from Mega Music. Drum supremo Daren Versaisco and Guitar and Bass expert Michael Daines gave our students an in-depth look at how their instruments actually work, the best ways to maintain them and perhaps most important of all: how to use this knowledge to get the best possible sound out of them. Even the our teachers picked up some useful pieces of information and learnt new tricks during these fascinating and informative sessions.
Our Solar Stage is moving on rapidly now and is very nearly ready to be registered before it is transferred over to the school for the next stages of the build. We are going to need help moving it for this, so please get in touch if you have a large vehicle capable of towing something this size: basically it is about the size of a large caravan and requires electric brakes. It would also be preferable if you have experience towing large trailers or caravans. If you think you may be able to help with this please get in touch as soon as possible.
The second workshop in our 2016 series was performed by The Amani Consort. Lead by Aysha Amani the band delivered a faultless demonstration of tight ensemble work, creating grooves in a range of styles from Funk through Soul to Hip Hop. During a Q&A session after the performance the band members described their varied musical backgrounds, training and professional careers, drawing influences from around the world but with one common piece of advice for our students: "Just do it! The more you play the better you will be!"
