Term 3 saw our students take yet another huge step up in the standard of their performances and the end of term showcase presented this for all to see and hear. A particular feature was the number of students taking solos and pushing themselves outside their comfort zones. We were also to try out the first stage in our new stage lighting.

On the 6th of September, the South Fremantle high school music students attended the WA Government Schools Contemporary Ensemble Festival 2014. The Contemporary Festival is a chance for many music programs from different schools to perform and be assessed by judges.
All seven of South Fremantle’s contemporary bands played at the festival. After the festival every school is sent a marking and comment sheet for every band. When South Freo received their assessment sheets, everybody was very pleased with an Outstanding and Excellent ratings for all bands.
Acting Principal Mr Neil Freckelton said, ”As a parent and a staff member it‘s a pleasure to witness the growth in musicality and confidence in these young people. In addition to playing together they are starting to understand the performance as a whole. As a parent, to see that kind of transformation is priceless”.
The Contemporary Festival has become one of the most important events in the music program. As well as providing a platform for students to improve their performance, but it also helps to spread the word about the music program.
Music student Ethan Edwards said, ”The festival increases the confidence of performing in front of a crowd, a long with giving us feedback which we can then learn and develop from”.
