It forced me to think about playing right as well as getting my performance right. It was a long day but I learned a lot - Harry Powers, year 10
On Friday 5th June we introduced a new event for our students called Concert Prac. All music students spent the day in the music centre as every band performed and every band received critical feedback from their peers and a panel of musicians.
Resident experts, Freddy Poncin, Jim Fisher and Shannon Woodbury, gave written and verbal feedback on students’ playing and stage etiquette.
Music Teacher, David D’Uva said, “One of the more difficult performances for a musician is playing in front of other musicians. That’s when you start to really critique your own playing. The concert prac provides an opportunity for students to be challenged and extended by local music professionals in a safe and supportive environment”.
As audience the students watched and listened in their bands and wrote feedback about the performances. After each band finished they sat before the audience to receive feedback.
Although an intense and tiring day it was well worthwhile as it gave students a clear picture of how their bands’ are progressing. We look forward to seeing the results at this term’s showcases.
