On the 8-9th of May the senior school Music students participated in a song writing program, SongMakers' Project. Mentored by Eskimo Joe frontman, Kav Temperley and renowned producer Anna Laverty students composed original songs and recorded demos for later post-production.
In only 50 schools nationally, the SongMakers' Project helps students understand the fundamentals of songwriting, gives them a chance to work with industry professionals and fosters the next generation of Australian hit-makers.
The SongMakers' Project "gives students an insight into how to build a song from scratch" said Kav Temperley, mentor and frontman of Eskimo Joe.
"I got a real sense of [Anna & Kav's] experience. It has given me an idea of what is out there waiting ahead for me" said Jessah, a year 11 Music student.
Specialist Music Program Director, Mr Mike Gowland said "the class curriculum requires an original composition. What better way to enrich student learning than by accessing such a real and rich opporunity".
The SongMakers' Project "was an inspiration to me", said year 11 Music student Yazmine. "It has inspired me to work harder to achieve my own musical goals".
Delivered by APRA AMCOS in partnership with the Australian Government the program provides an innovative, exciting opportunity for participating students.
