D-d-d-drop the Jazz; that's right, not the bass. Local band, Child's Play delivered a different and dancy performance and workshop for the South Fremantle music students on May 4th.
Former South music student, Sam Newman, used a laptop to 'sample' songs, mixing different instruments live to fit with rapping vocals and a saxophone. As well as live mixing he moved seamlessly from trombone back to his laptop in various songs.
Sam said that "once you get used to the program the music world is yours".
The band mixes jazz music with more hip hop styles which interested every year 7-12 student in the room.
Music Coordinator Mike Gowland noted “it helps students realise, in a very practical way, that you can mix any genre of music and make it work”.
