Picture this…..a calm evening on the rear terrace of the Music Centre…candlelight, the smell of BBQ on the breeze…..families nestled comfortably listening to their children as they perform songs written and recorded during a five week intensive Songwriter's Quest Music project.
Written during classes, arranged in rehearsal time and recorded and mastered in and out of class, the songs showcase the angst, the humour, the fun, the musicality of life in a teenage skin.
Recorded in the Music Program’s industry standard recording facilities the project provided students with insights into the creative process, working collaboratively as well as the technical aspects of recording.
Music Director, Mike Gowland described the process as “a rich, real and meaningful way for the students to apply their Musical learning. It’s great to see the burst of growth that happens when they immerse themselves in a project like this”.
The Songwriter’s Quest is a cross-program project that provides opportunities for students to write and record their own songs. It provides explicit connections from the Music Program curriculum to the school’s focus on literacy and use of technologies.
